AIA Akron Membership

ARCHITECT

Registered Architect, currently licensed to practice in the U.S. Proof of license must be furnished to complete membership processing.

ASSOCIATE

Unlicensed to practice architecture, but meeting one of the following:

  • Participating in career responsibilities recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit toward licensure (intern associate).
  • Under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity (practicing associate). A faculty member in a university program in architecture (academic associate).
  • Hold a professional degree in architecture (degreed associate).
  • International Associate: Holder of an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. licensing authority, but without license in the U.S.
Emeritus:

An AIA Member for 15 successive years and 70 years of age, or 60 years of age and fully retired, or incapacitated so as to be unable to work in the profession. A Lifetime Emeritus member pays a one time fee to AIA National of $500 to remain an active AIA member or may renew their membership yearly with a fee of $45 per year. An Emeritus member who wishes to remain on AIA Akron's mailing list, pays a one time fee of $49 to AIA Akron. You may choose an inactive Emeritus with no fee.

Allied Individual Membership:

As an Allied Member of AIA, you are entitled to discounts on sponsorship as well as other exciting opportunities. Definition: Allied organizational membership is open to corporations, major divisions of companies, and trade associations in the design and construction communities. Created to promote communication and working relationships among those engaged in research, design, development, testing, manufacture, distribution, or training for building and construction products or systems, allied organizational membership is a joint program of the AIA and the AAF.

Rights and Privileges of Allied Membership:

The AIA Bylaws provide that allied members may serve in any capacity on Institute committees, attend meetings and conventions, and participate in the scheduled activities and programs of the Institute; may not vote (except on committees) or be appointed or elected as an officer, director, or delegate to serve in any other policy-setting position; and may indicate on business cards and letterhead that they are Allied members of the AIA, but may not use the name, initials, or symbol of the Institute in any manner that indicates Institute endorsement, sponsorship, or approval of any construction material or product.
